Privacy policy.
What this site collects, where it goes, and what we never ask for.
Who runs this site
FAFSAGuide (fafsaguide.com) is run by Scout Theory LLC. Questions about this policy can go through our contact page or to andy@scotheo.com.
The short version
- You can use every guide and tool without an account.
- We never ask for your Social Security number, tax details, or FAFSA login, and you should never give them to any site except StudentAid.gov.
- Your checklist answers stay in your browser. They aren’t sent to us.
- We don’t sell your information.
What we collect
If you use the contact form: your name, email, the topic you pick, and your message, plus the page you sent it from, the page that sent you here, your browser type, and the time. We use this only to read and answer your message.
When you visit: we use Google Analytics to see which pages people use, so we know what to improve. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects things like pages viewed, approximate location, device type, and how you got here. You can block it with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on or your browser’s privacy settings.
Server logs: like most websites, our server keeps standard logs (IP address, pages requested, browser type, and time) for security and troubleshooting.
Where it goes
Contact form messages are stored in a Google Sheet through Google Apps Script, and we get an email notification. Analytics data is processed by Google. Google handles that data under its own privacy policy. We don’t sell or rent your information to anyone.
Links to other sites
We link to StudentAid.gov, state aid agencies, and other sites. Their privacy policies apply once you leave FAFSAGuide.
Students under 18
Many of our readers are high school students. The site isn’t meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child under 13 has sent us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Your choices
You can ask to see, correct, or delete a message you sent us by contacting us. We keep messages only as long as we need them to reply and keep basic records.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll post the new version here with a new date.
